The US senator said that officials participating in a transitional government will maintain their rank.

US Sen. Marco Rubio said Venezuelan military leaders still have time to obtain amnesty, but only “if they play a role in restoring democracy.”
“There is still time for military leaders in Venezuela to maintain their rank, be granted legal amnesty, eliminate US sanctions and participate in a transitional government, but only if they play a role in restoring democracy.” Rubio wrote on Twitter.
The parliamentarian said on Friday that people close to the ruling party who have committed crimes against humanity will not receive amnesty from the United States.
“There are some officials who are not going to receive that process, I can not give names, but there are individuals who can not benefit from that, and in fact there is no amnesty for serious crimes by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights,” Rubio said at a press conference.
On Monday, he assured that the next few days will be “tense” for Venezuela and affirmed that the country will be free. He indicated that in conversations with President Donald Trump, they agreed that the next time the United States flag flies in the South American country, it will be a free State.
“The next few days will be tense, but very important. Freedom comes for Venezuela, “he said.
The senator, who is closely following the crisis in the country, said that the decision to withdraw US diplomats from Venezuelan territory has to do with security measures, due to energy problems that were registered in the country and that would generate irregularities for the American staff.
