Provocative act targeting media

The point is, Pompeo is not a defender of the media, but anti-media.

He uses information to throw shade instead of light, he trades in secrets instead of transparency. He asks journalists to serve his agenda as tools and scribes. He doesn’t want them to shine light in dark places. He can’t comprehend the journalist’s penchant to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. His eagerness to humiliate China during the novel coronavirus epidemic is deplorable. China is understandably preoccupied with containing, for its own sake and the sake of the world, a terrible contagion.

That he chooses to attack at a time of crisis like this speaks volumes about his character.

[2018] It’s A Problem That America Is Still Unable To Admit It Will Become #2 To China

So why is there a perception that globalization has failed? The simple answer is that Western elites who enjoyed the fruits of globalization did not share them with their Western masses. Even worse, they did not prepare their populations for the disruptive change caused by the spread of globalization. In a forthcoming book, I explain how Trump and Brexit are the result of this failure. In it, I write:

Instead of reacting thoughtfully and intelligently [to the 9/11 attack in 2001], the prevailing intellectual hubris led to the disastrous decision to invade Iraq. America has the world’s best universities and think tanks, as well as the most globally influential professors and pundits. Yet none of them told their fellow citizens that the most important event in 2001 was not 9/11. It was China’s entry into the World Trade Organization. The entry of almost a billion workers into the global trading system would obviously result in massive ‘creative destruction’ and the loss of many jobs in the West.

This, to cut a long story short, was one major reason why Trump and Brexit happened 15 years later in 2016. The working-class populations could feel directly what their elites couldn’t feel. Their lives were being disrupted by fundamental changes taking place in the world order, and their leaders had done nothing to explain to them what was happening or to mitigate the damage.

Researching.

Profiting from 9/11: SAIC and Duane Andrews

The fact that Andrews was the most knowledgeable person in terms of the vulnerabilities of information and communications networks for U.S. national security seems a worthy point for further consideration. That’s because so many inexplicable problems occurred with defense communications networks on 9/11, including the following.

There were serious problems with the National Military Command Center’s conference calls that morning. Important participants could not be connected or were repeatedly dropped from the calls, including the FAA.[12]
U.S. national security facilities were in an information void on 9/11. Agencies that should have known the most about an ongoing terrorist event were blind to the ongoing attacks.[13]
The SIPRnet did not have any information about the attacks even as late as the afternoon of 9/11.[14]
President Bush complained of poor communications in that he “could not reach key officials, including Rumsfeld” and “The line to the White House shelter conference room – and the Vice-President- kept cutting off.”[15]
