**The US has been villianizing Russia, as well, as China. While I won’t deny xenophobia occurs in Russia, it also occurs in the West.

From the Mayor of Moscow’s website (Yandex translation):

The next task is to identify the citizens of China, Russia and any other countries, flown in from China to Moscow before the introduction of the solid control at the borders.  To this end, the police and doctors carried out raids on places of their possible accommodation (hotels, hostels, private apartments).  In addition, monitoring of arrivals from China are employees of the metro, Mosgortrans, in conjunction with law enforcement and paramedics. In the course of inspections to those who have recently arrived from China, issued rulings on two weeks ‘ isolation at the place of residence. Conducting unpleasant task, but it is necessary, including for potential carriers of the virus. And, by the way, most checked during raids of citizens in Moscow for a long time, no restriction is not applied.”

Quote from the above AP article: “The Cossacks of Yekaterinburg – men in conservative, often pro-Kremlin groups claiming to be successors of the proud guards who policed the Russian Empire’s frontiers – took fighting the virus into their own hands three weeks ago. They also have a system of sorts for deciding who needs a face mask and advice to see a medical professional.

Here, the Cossacks are demonized for fighting with the former Russian-speaking Ukrainians, in Donetsk People’s Republic (Eastern Ukraine, as Ukraine and the US doesn’t recognize their elections).

For historical purposes, the Cossacks fought against the Bolsheviks, with the White Russian Army, in the Russian Civil War. I mention, here, that American troops fought with the White Russian Army, as well. Some more interesting historical information about the Cossacks, during the 16th and 17th Centuries. These are added due to interest, not as an endorsement of their treatment of Chinese citizens in Russia.

Here, a family returned from China, and their daughter exhibited signs of a respiratory illness. They refused to take her to the hospital, to be tested for Coronavirus, so the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare stepped in. For what it’s worth, a quote: “The local department of the Russian consumer rights watchdog addressed the court with the demand for the child’s forced hospitalization.”

Again, I don’t endorse racism, or xenophobia, but any articles about Russia are suspect to me, just as articles about China are.
