UK’s New Prime Minister Makes No Apologies for Favoring the Wealthy

UK’s New Prime Minister Makes No Apologies for Favoring the Wealthy

Truss also went out of her way to channel Britain’s first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, who remains as iconic among the Tory Party base as Ronald Reagan is for Republicans in the U.S. Truss has studied Thatcher’s body language, has adopted her dress style — as Twitter users were quick to point out — and has reached for many of the same rhetorical tools. Yet, style notwithstanding, she has nowhere near the ideological consistency or heft of a Thatcher.

It will take all of Truss’s shape-shifting talents, and then some, to turn around the election ship for the Conservatives over the coming two years, which is the time span that Truss has before the next general election must be called. In the meantime, as the U.K. grapples with a deepening economic crisis, all of the new prime minister’s public statements suggest that the country is going to be dragged ever-further rightward into a deregulated, anti-union, Brexit-hued future.

God Save The UK!

New COVID Booster Approved From Final Study of Mice, Not Humans, But Using Only Animal Data Is a Needless Gamble

VERIFY: New COVID booster approved from final study of mice, not humans

According to documents on the CDC website, human tests of Moderna’s version of the new booster are still “ongoing.” Right now, there is only final evidence from “8-10 mice” per group.”

The FDA’s website shows for Pfizer the agency also relayed on the final study evidence from “8 mice.” But human trials are also ongoing. So far, the new boosters “showed a similar local reaction and systemic event profile.” That means side effects appear to be about the same including “mild to moderate injection site pain, fatigue, and muscle pain.”

“To advance the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 bivalent vaccine as rapidly as possible, regulators, including the FDA, WHO and EMA, have advised that our submissions be based on safety and immunogenicity data generated in adults with an Omicron BA.1 bivalent vaccine and supported by BA.4/BA.5 bivalent pre-clinical data and BA.4/BA.5 bivalent quality and manufacturing data. These packages follow a similar model to that provided to public health officials who evaluate seasonal flu vaccines each year. Moving forward, this approach may help address the pressing need for vaccines that provide a high level of protection against current and emerging variants of concern so that we can remain vigilant against this evolving virus. The FDA has authorized our Omicron BA.4/BA.5 bivalent vaccine based on clinical data generated in adults with an Omicron BA.1 bivalent vaccine, pre-clinical data with a BA.4/BA.5 bivalent vaccine and BA.4/BA.5 bivalent quality and manufacturing data. Pre-clinical data showed a booster dose of Pfizer and BioNTech’s Omicron BA.4/BA.5- bivalent vaccine generated a strong neutralizing antibody response against Omicron BA.1, BA.2 and BA.4/BA.5 variants, as well as the original wild-type strain. A clinical study investigating the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 bivalent vaccine in individuals 12 years of age and older is ongoing. Data will be shared with regulators when available. We are facing a virus with an exceptionally high mutation rate, which the nimble mRNA platform is well situated to address. Only the mRNA sequence requires updating to match emerging strains, and utilizing a bivalent vaccine aims to provide broader coverage against known and future COVID-19 variants of concern.”

Racists Depict Russia as “Asian” Whenever they Want to Affiliate Russia with Barbarianism

In 2018, a drawing of Russian President Putin was released by the Wall Street Journal. In this image, President Putin was depicted wearing Mongolian garb and armor. Behind him rides a faceless Mongol horde. A caption in bold characters read: “RUSSIA RETURNS TO ITS ASIAN PAST”. What may appear to be an innocent political cartoon is actually connected to very deep anti-Asian roots.

[08-28-2022] Faina Savenkova — Myrotvorets should not exist, and its owners are not held accountable for their actions

08-28-2022 — Faina Savenkova

Journalist Daria Dugina was killed in Russia on Saturday night. I would hardly have known who she was if my friends hadn’t told me that she and her father, Alexander Dugin, were included on the Myrotvorets website, and everyone knew their details. Of course, you don’t have to listen to me, because I’m a child. But for the third year I have been trying to reach out to all world leaders and organizations. All this time I hear jokes that it’s honorable and great to be in the database of this site. But yesterday there was another murder. It’s not for me to figure out who is to blame for this and how it happened. Now I’m just really sorry for Daria’s parents.

White House Releases Performatively Ridiculous ‘Principles’ For ‘Tech Platform Accountability’ That Include Removing Section 230

from the last-minute-homework dept

Fri, Sep 9th 2022 09:50am – Mike Masnick

During the 2020 campaign, there were a few times when candidate Joe Biden insisted he wanted to get rid of Section 230 entirely, though he made it clear he had no idea what Section 230 actually did. When I wrote articles highlighting all of this, I had some Biden supporters (even folks who worked on his campaign) reach out to me to say not to worry about it, that Biden wasn’t fully briefed on 230, and that if he became President, more knowledgeable people would be tasked to work on stuff, and the 230 stuff wouldn’t be an issue. I didn’t believe it at the time, and it turns out I was correct.

A New Study Suggests That Black Southerners’ Access to Firearms Reduced Lynchings

In her 1892 pamphlet Southern Horrors: Lynch Law in All Its Phases, the journalist Ida B. Wells argued that firearms were an essential tool in preventing the deadly white supremacist violence that she chronicled. “Of the many inhuman outrages of this present year, the only case where the proposed lynching did not occur, was where the men armed themselves in Jacksonville, Fla., and Paducah, Ky, and prevented it,” she wrote. “The only times an Afro-American who was assaulted got away has been when he had a gun and used it in self-defense.”
