This is the take from Orinoco Tribune editor, Jesus Rodriguez-Espinoza, on the controversy around the Referendum called by Venezuela to ask the opinions of Venezuelans about future actions to exercise sovereignty over the disputed with Guyana, Essequibo Territory. The statements were made during the monthly FreeAlexSabb picket organized by Venezuela Peace Committee in Winnipeg, Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice Venezuela Solidarity Campaign, and Just Peace Advocates, in Canada, last Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The Consultative Referendum is scheduled for this Sunday, December 3, 2023, and for many in Venezuela it will mark a now and before in the way the Venezuelan state approaches a resolution of the territorial dispute recently exacerbated by Guyana’s aggressive granting of concessions to oil corporations, recurrent military drills with the USSouthcom and more recently with xenophobic acts against Venezuelan migrants in Guyana.
