BELOIT — The USS Beloit will be the sixth ship David Chisholm has served on in his 21-year career in the U.S. Navy. This will be his first commissioning ceremony though, when the ship is put into service on Nov. 23 in Milwaukee.

The ceremony is free, but tickets are limited. To request tickets, go to www.ussbeloit.org/events.
The USS Beloit is a Littoral Combat Ship, designed to operate in shallow waters close to shore to support specific missions, including surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and mine countermeasures. Chisholm actually served on the first LCS ship, the USS Freedom, which was commissioned in 2008 and decommissioned in 2021.
After the Nov. 23 ceremony, the crew will sail the ship to its permanent station, Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Fla. Chisholm said there is still lots of work before the USS Beloit actually goes on a mission. He said LCS ships have been doing a lot of counter drug operations around South America. The website www.militaryshiptracker.com/ shows that the USS St. Louis currently is part of such operations around Panama.
Chisholm said the USS Beloit is unlikely to actually serve missions until 2026. The commissioning will be the culmination of a six-year process. In 2018, the Navy announced that it was naming the next littoral combat ship after Beloit in honor of the city’s contributions to the Navy and national defense.
