Personal Update: Berberine & Ceylon Cinnamon for Blood Sugar Control

Earlier this year, I wrote about my struggles with hyperglycemia—how frustrating it was trying to keep my blood sugar in check. Since then, I’ve started taking Berberine with Ceylon Cinnamon every day, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for my Type II diabetes. I’ve also noticed that eating my salads before diving into carbs makes a difference in keeping my blood sugar more stable. It’s one of those small changes that actually adds up.

Research suggests that Ceylon cinnamon may help regulate blood sugar by blocking certain gut enzymes that break down starches—which, of course, are a type of carbohydrate. But when it comes to taking larger amounts—especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding—scientists don’t have much data on its safety.

Berberine has also been studied and seems to work as well as some diabetes medications for lowering blood sugar. But it’s not without risks—it can interact with medications that lower blood sugar, increasing the chance of hypoglycemia. It might also affect drugs processed by the liver, so if you’re on any medications, it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor before adding berberine to your routine.

I wanted to share this update in case it helps someone else who’s been struggling with blood sugar management. It’s been a journey figuring out what works for me, and if any of this makes life a little easier for someone else, then it’s worth sharing!
