My Socialist Hall of Fame
During this chaotic era of vile rhetoric and manipulative tactics from our so-called bourgeois leaders, I am invigorated by the opportunity to reflect on Socialists, Revolutionaries, Philosophers, Guerrilla Leaders, Partisans, and Critical Theory titans, champions, and martyrs who paved the way for us—my own audacious “Socialism’s Hall of Fame.” These are my heroes and fore-bearers. Not all are perfect, or even fully admirable, but all contributed in some way to our future–either as icons to emulate, or as warnings to avoid in the future.
Camus surfaced in my personal blog the other day—his reflections on absurdity framing much of what I was grappling with. Just days later, my WordPress feed handed me this post on him. OSS Agent 488 might call it synchronicity.
“I’m stuck at the bottom of everything and I’m looking up, wondering to myself if I’ll get back up. Do I have the mind to do it all again? Do I have the will? Do I have the strength? Can I push that boulder up the hill again, just like Sisyphus?” —Garbage, Sisyphus
