The US Propaganda Campaign to Smear Venezuela’s New President Delcy Rodriguez

The US “regime change” operation against Venezuela has been defeated. The Bolivarian Revolution remains firmly in power. Now, Washington’s campaign against the Chavistas attempts to paint Interim President Delcy Rodriguez as compromising on the heritage of Presidents Nicolas Maduro and Hugo Chavez. The Wall Street Journal ran an article Venezuelan Regime’s New Strategy: Appease Trump to Survive, referring to Delcy Rodriguez’ official statement January 4 (below).

I almost bought into that narrative too, until I stepped back and thought it through. It didn’t make sense that the Trump administration would secretly coordinate with Delcy Rodríguez instead of Maduro himself. Last Fall, the claim was that Maduro was ready to hand over everything—right down to the kitchen sink—to Wall Street, which in hindsight feels like part of the psychological operation as well.

The first time I heard the Delcy‑collusion story was through Eva Golinger. She was solid during the Chávez years and for a while after his death, but she’s been consistently anti‑Maduro, so her framing didn’t surprise me.
