The Semantics of “Socialism” in a Changing World

The Semantics of “Socialism” in a Changing World

Around the world, the terms “Socialism” and “Communism” suddenly took on new meanings, once again. Socialism referred to patriotic, anti-Soviet political organizations that sought to get elected, and gradually transition toward a more egalitarian society, one step at a time. Communism referred to the parties aligned with the Soviet Union that adopted Marxism-Leninism as their ideology and ultimately sought to seize power in a revolutionary situation. However, the Communist Parties were also always critical of “ultra-leftism” and calls for violence, and the Soviet Union urged them to not be parties of extremism, isolated from the masses of people.

Neoconservativism In A Nutshell

Neoconservativism In A Nutshell

If I were asked to boil down neoconservatism to its essential elements—that is, those that have remained consistent over the past nearly 50 years—I would cite the following:

* a Manichean view of a world in which good and evil are constantly at war and the United States has an obligation to lead forces for good around the globe.

* a belief in the moral exceptionalism of both the United States and Israel and the absolute moral necessity for the U.S. to defend Israel’s security.

* a conviction that, in order to keep evil at bay, the United States must have—and be willing to exercise—the military power necessary to defeat any and all challengers. There’s a corollary: force is the only language that evil understands.

* the 1930s—with Munich, appeasement, Chamberlain, Churchill—taught us everything we need to know about evil and how to fight it.

* democracy is generally desirable, but it always depends on who wins.

THE ANTI-IMPERIALIST TRUTH ABOUT CUBA

THE ANTI-IMPERIALIST TRUTH ABOUT CUBA

Castro has consistently shown he cares more for the American working class than the American elites do themselves. After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Fidel immediately offered medical aid to the United States. The pride of the American Government dictated that rather than accept the 1610 doctors that Fidel offered, they would rather let their own citizens die on the roofs of houses or hospitals. No one evacuated the US citizens from stadiums and in nursing homes, people were euthanized to prevent death by drowning. The US in 1959 tried to leave the Cuban population without doctors, yet in September 2005 Castro was the first to offer the US doctors when they needed it most.

Greek Court rules Golden Dawn is a criminal organization

Greek Court rules Golden Dawn is a criminal organization

The trial considered four separate criminal charges involving the murder of Greek rapper Pavlos Fyssas in 2013, attacks on migrant fishermen, attacks on left-wing activists and whether Golden Dawn was involved in criminal activity.

Inserting my comment, first, so it doesn’t get overlooked. While I am also against Zionism(racism), NATO, and mass immigration (which I see as mainly caused by NATO’s ‘humanitarian’ wars and coup d’états), I don’t believe in being hostile, or violent, towards anyone! It’s not the immigrants’ fault that the NATO-led country’s destabilized their country! It’s the elites in DC and their respective countries!

To me, this group sounds just like the NeoNazis in Ukraine—backed by both the Democrats, and the Republicans, in America! Note: The same members of the GOP, pursuing Hunter Biden’s involvement in Ukraine, are hypocrites, as they supported the dismissal of the Ukrainian lawyer that was investigating Burisma! They also supported the Euromaidan!

Trump’s TikTok Farce Ignores the Lessons of the Red Scare

Trump’s TikTok Farce Ignores the Lessons of the Red Scare

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP would probably be surprised to learn that he is vindicating Marx’s claim that when history repeats itself, the second time is a farce. The administration’s odd war on TikTok echoes the period more than half a century ago when the US government was so worried about content from Communist countries that Congress directed the Post Office to detain perceived “Communist political propaganda.”

We should all be a bit more hesitant to accept claims of imminent national security threats that justify radical action, especially when they happen to coincide with authorities’ interests. National security has been the basis for the rise of perhaps every despot in history. We should remember the example of the Supreme Court, which did not roll over to erode free press in the face of the Communist threat a half-century ago.
