UN High Commissioner for Human Rights visits China

A blow for Western diplomacy: the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Chilean national Michele Bachelet, has just completed a six-day visit to China, looking in particular for evidence of the “Uyghur genocide”, but had to leave empty-handed. Going back 17 years, none of her predecessors has ever set foot in China.

Ms. Bachelet interviewed several dignitaries, heads of associations, religious leaders and witnesses at large. She even paid a visit to Kashi prison, but could find nothing that conflicted with the official Chinese version.

What happened:

Kazakhstan unrest: Dozens killed, about 2,000 arrested as protesters clash with police in Almaty

Kazakhstan is a major energy power, among the top exporters of oil globally and in the leading 20 for gas. The country’s government has subsidized liquefied petroleum gas for years, but when it lifted price controls on LPG, it argued that keeping them in place was no longer sustainable.

Pentagon Looking to Withdraw Support From CIA Counter-Terrorism Operations

One aspect of the plan is to determine if DOD personnel assigned to the CIA should instead be involved with missions to compete with Russia and China. The move is another sign of the Pentagon’s focus away from counter-terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa towards so-called “great power competition” with Russia and China as outlined in the 2018 National Defense Strategy.

So regime change for China and Russia?!
