Senator Jon Tester of Montana got into a heated debate with Randal Quarles, the Vice Chairman for Supervision at the Federal Reserve. Although both the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, as well as Quarles, have previously stated that another round of fiscal stimulus is needed from Congress, Quarles now seems to have been intimidated by some Republicans in Congress who don’t want another stimulus package. Quarles, during the hearing, refused to endorse another stimulus package.

Why America’s economic war on China is failing
U.S. President Donald Trump—supported by most of the U.S. establishment—deepened the U.S. government’s assault on the Chinese economy. The “trade war” seemed to play well with Trump’s political base, who somehow hoped that an economic attack on China would miraculously create economic prosperity for them. In 2018, Trump slapped tariffs on more than $200 billion worth of various Chinese goods. Then, Trump’s administration went after Chinese high-tech firms such as Huawei, ZTE, ByteDance (the owners of TikTok), and WeChat.

Fossil Fuel Companies Profited, Now We Owe Billions
This spring, states pitched the Trump administration on an innovative jobs proposal: use federal stimulus funds to hire thousands of unemployed fossil fuel workers to plug oil and gas wells leaking emissions that are intensifying the climate crisis. Instead, the Trump White House funneled nearly $100 billion in bailouts to oil and gas corporations through the Federal Reserve.

Inflation Is Already Here—For the Stuff You Actually Want to Buy
The pandemic provided inflationary pressure by restricting supply, so when demand rose—for example, for eating out as the lockdown eased—prices rose sharply. And because Covid-19 has intensified the U.S.-China trade war and the trend toward deglobalization, supply could be constrained for a long time.
The pandemic also creates deflationary pressure, hitting demand as people socially distance, leading to job losses and corporate cutbacks.

Quotations from several speeches made on the Floor of the House of Representatives by the Honorable Louis T. McFadden of Pennsylvania. Mr. McFadden, due to his having served as Chairman of the Banking and Currency Committee for more than 10 years, was the best posted man on these matters in America and was in a position to speak with authority of the vast ramifications of this gigantic private credit monopoly. As Representative of a State which was among the first to declare its freedom from foreign money tyrants it is fitting that Pennsylvania, the cradle of liberty, be again given the credit for producing a son that was not afraid to hurl defiance in the face of the money-bund. Whereas Mr. McFadden was elected to the high office on both the Democratic and Republican tickets, there can be no accusation of partisanship lodged against him. Because these speeches are set out in full in the Congressional Record, they carry weight that no amount of condemnation on the part of private individuals could hope to carry.
