Trump Regulator Set to Consider Approving the Banking Model that Ushered in the Great Depression – Uninsured Deposits

Seven banking and credit union associations have sent a letter to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the regulator of national banks in the U.S., spelling out the dangers of the OCC approving a pending bank charter that would allow a national bank to accept and hold deposits that lack federal deposit insurance. The lack of federal deposit insurance triggered the bank runs and banks collapses that played a key role in ushering in the Great Depression. (More on that in a moment.)

Franklin Roosevelt succeeded in undercutting the growth of left-wing political movements in the mid-1930s by adopting much of the rhetoric of the left and co-opting many of its leaders.

The fact that left-wing parties did not make significant inroads during the Great Depression dramatically demonstrated not only the power of America’s coalitional two-party system to dissuade a national third party but also the deeply antistatist, individualistic character of its electorate.

Amidst the renewed Cold War logic of confrontation between east and west, it is easy to forget that patriotic forces with Russia, China and the USA were once united in a close bond of friendship which changed the course of history.

In this lecture delivered by Canadian Patriot Review founder Matthew Ehret during the 2nd half of a conference in Vancouver BC, the fight to shape a multi-polar world order is explored with a focus on the clash between Franklin Roosevelt vs Winston Churchill. Other anti-imperial figures either slandered or entirely written out of history such as Henry Wallace, Wendell Wilkie, Harry Hopkins, Harry Dexter White and Sumner Welles are also introduced in this story. All of these international New Dealers were united by a common vision of a post-war order defined by win-win cooperation, mutual development and sovereign nation states protecting the general welfare of their people.
