This has already caused massive real economic damage to Filipinos, like the loss of 1.5-million Chinese tourist arrivals and $1.5-billion (P90-billion) tourism revenues for our six million tourism workers.

Even worse, it can give the US the basis for creating a false flag operation blaming China for a human disaster and precipitating a major conflict – which is clearly what the US warmongers intend as evidenced by the US military bases in the country.

It is true, that whoever reads Russian newspapers, might suppose that all Russia enthusiastically applauds the Tsar’s policy of conquest; in them there is nothing but Jingoism, Panslavism, the deliverance of Christians from the Turkish, of Slavs from the German and Magyar, yoke. But, firstly, every one knows in what chains the Russian press lies bound; secondly, the Government itself has for years fostered this Jingoism and Panslavism in all schools; and thirdly, these newspapers express — so far as they express any sort of independent opinion, only the opinion of the town population, i.e. of the newly-created Bourgeoisie, naturally interested in new conquests as extensions of the Russian home market.

It should also shine a light on a foreign policy entangled with fascistic groups in many places. But politicians and media, as well as many on the left, have minimized the most salient points of NaziGate.

The early stretch of the 2024 presidential campaign is underway — and with it a boatload of bad ideas and policy initiatives. One of the worst but increasingly popular proposals, uttered by several politicians aspiring for the highest office in the land, is to use the military to combat the drug cartels that have smuggled gargantuan amounts of fentanyl into the United States and turned swaths of neighboring Mexico into a war zone.

War is hell. Most people agree with that sentiment, whether the fighting involves our country or nations on the other side of the world. We would prefer current wars end quickly and no new wars were started.

Diplomacy ain’t what it used to be.

Pro-war messages from Ukrainians fighting for their lives is one thing. But the jingoism from Americans is inexplicable. Most American blue-and-yellow flag-wavers couldn’t have found Ukraine on a map a year ago. Today, they’re such geopolitical experts, they can’t be questioned.

We’re repeatedly told that nationalism [or neo-nazism] is a threat to democracy. Apparently, that only applies to the American variety. Ukrainian nationalism isn’t only tolerated, it’s becoming mandatory among our politicians and media figures.

It’s not enough to root for a free and peaceful Ukraine; you need to cheer on the slaughter of Russian conscripts, most of whom would rather be at home with their loved ones. And don’t you dare question the untold billions U.S. taxpayers are pouring into Kyiv. Only Putin fans are concerned about the $31 trillion national debt.

Our political class might be giddy at that outcome, but the rest of us see it as tragedy.

War is not the goal, in Ukraine or anywhere else; peace is. It would be nice if our leaders understood that.

Just searching for ‘peace’, in the last 24 hours, and this was all that came up for Ukraine-Russia, despite it being originally published on 10-08 in Arizona Republic.
