Castro has consistently shown he cares more for the American working class than the American elites do themselves. After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Fidel immediately offered medical aid to the United States. The pride of the American Government dictated that rather than accept the 1610 doctors that Fidel offered, they would rather let their own citizens die on the roofs of houses or hospitals. No one evacuated the US citizens from stadiums and in nursing homes, people were euthanized to prevent death by drowning. The US in 1959 tried to leave the Cuban population without doctors, yet in September 2005 Castro was the first to offer the US doctors when they needed it most.

CHALLENGES FOR SOCIAL MOVEMENTS NOW THAT TRUMP HAS BEEN DEFEATED

The ways we overcome these obstacles are by being aware of these tactics and countering them. We should not allow excuses or false solutions to weaken our demands for what we require. We need to recognize false demons and find ways to reassure people they will be better off with the changes we are championing. We need to show solidarity when members of the movement are under attack. And we need to build networks of support for each other, whether it is mutual aid or self defense.

The British state-funded BBC, which has a history of perverted war propaganda against the people of Syria, a history of whitewashing the crimes of terrorists in Syria, a history of flat out lying about events in Syria, has decided to launch another smear against myself, Vanessa Beeley, researchers of the Working Group on Syria, a former ambassador to Syria, and others.

Ren Zhiqiang was not arrested for ‘anti-communism’

When influential, former property executive Ren Zhiqiang was given an 18-year sentence in China, the Western media were quick to label his imprisonment as due to alleged “anti-communist” activity. The Washington Post, CNN, the Guardian, and the New York Times parroted the same message: that Zhiqiang was imprisoned for being an “outspoken” critic of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC).

The logic of the Western media’s accusation can be summarized as follows: “If Ren Zhiqiang critiqued the CPC and was later sentenced, he must have been imprisoned for his critique of the CPC.” There’s a problem with this narrative. The charges brought against him were for embezzlement of an equivalent of $16.3 million in public funds. The accusation of embezzlement has not been disputed, and there is no evidence to suggest that the charges were anything else. Zhiqiang confessed to these charges. Bill Gates on Track to Grow His Fortune Through Foundation’s Ties to Vaccine Makers

A telling piece in The Nation this week reports some of the conflicts of interest the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation holds in the world’s quest for a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the article, the foundation’s investments in companies working to develop COVID-19 vaccines put Gates “in a position to potentially reap considerable financial gains from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
