What Kind of Threat Is China?

Book review of “America and the China Threat: From the End of History to the End of Empire” by Prof. Paolo Urio

The “brutalist philosophy” of the US was made public (曝光) by Robert Daly, a former US diplomat stationed in Beijing, in 2015. Currently, he is the director of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States. No diplomatic niceties here, Daly frankly states the policy of the US: China must never reach the level of the US.

What Kind of Threat Is China?

Post-mortem on America’s longest war

Post-mortem on America’s longest war

What Afghanistan has inherited from US is poverty, a rising unemployment rate, the destruction of social services, the unprecedented increase in class distinctions, a wealth gap, the destruction of the middle class, a vast economic mafia network, an underground economy, increased cultivation, production, and smuggling of drugs, addiction among more than 4 million young people, an ethnic war, the collapse of good values, the growth of a culture of corruption, money laundering, and lying.

In addition, the stunning rise of brothels, the collapse of individual morality, and prostitution, are parts of the American legacy in Afghanistan.

The United States also disappointed the people and ruined their expectations of democracy, human rights, and civil rights. The faces of America, imperialism, and postmodern-colonialism, hidden beneath American democracy and human rights, were revealed. People’s frustration with what is called American democracy and human rights are another part of American legacy in Afghanistan.

Nation is at a Tipping Point

Re: Kathie Garcia’s Jan. 26 letter, “What will come of impeachment?”:

I found this letter to be thoughtful and critically important. America is poised on a knifepoint, and we will fall either to the side of reinforcing our most basic morals, values and traditions, or plunge into a new state, where the law of the jungle has replaced the rule of law. President Donald Trump’s one-time guru, Steve Bannon, espoused the intention to tear down government, and that sounded preposterous at the time. Not so preposterous now.

The questions posed by Kathie Garcia’s letter can be answered in this way: The future of America, the lives of our citizens and the morality of our society are in our hands. Our form of government demands that we take responsibility for those we elect to represent us. When they reflect our values and beliefs, we re-elect them. When they fail to do so, we must vote them out. Failure to do so, including failure to vote, means we surrender to special interests, political cults and corrupt influences.

We get to vote on the answers to Garcia’s questions. The fate of our nation tips with the results.
