The US Federal Reserve printed $300 billion in a week to save collapsing banks and bail out Silicon Valley oligarchs. 93% of Silicon Valley Bank’s deposits were uninsured, over the FDIC limit of $250,000, but the government still paid them. 56% of SVB’s loans went to venture capitalist and private equity firms.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Ukraine has accused NBC News of violating its law after the US broadcaster had its crew cross into the Crimea peninsula from mainland Russia.
“Attending Crimea from the territory of Russia is a violation of the legislation of Ukraine, for which responsibility is provided – in particular, foreigners are also prohibited from entering for such actions. We are very much concerned about the tv plot of @NBCNews,” Ukrainian Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko tweeted on Wednesday.
Moreover, Keir Simmons, the journalist behind the report, has been added to the notorious Ukrainian “kill list,” the Mirotvorets website. He was accused of entering the Crimean peninsula through mainland Russia and “participating in propaganda activities against Ukraine.”
On Tuesday, NBC News broadcast a report from Crimea where Simmons traveled on train from mainland Russia via the landmark bridge damaged by a deadly blast last October that was orchestrated by Ukrainian special services. The bridge has since been repaired. The reporter interviewed local people on camera who turned out overwhelmingly in support of their 2014 accession to Russia.
The spokesman for Ukraine’s foreign ministry said that Ukraine was investigating the circumstances of the NBC News reporter’s visit to Crimea and that he might end up prohibited from entering Ukrainian territory.

COVID Infection Provides Immunity Equal to Vaccination: Study
Feb. 17, 2023 — The natural immunity provided by a COVID infection protects a person against severe illness on a par with two doses of mRNA vaccine, a new study says.
…
But protection against the BA.1 subvariant of Omicron was not as high – 36% at 10 months after infection, says the research team from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.
The researchers examined 65 studies from 19 countries through Sept. 31, 2022. They did not study data about infection from Omicron XBB and its sub-lineages. People who had immunity from both infection and vaccination, known as hybrid immunity, were not studied.

OK, so America used an ultra-expensive F-22 stealth interceptor to shoot down what may prove to be a common weather balloon that was “made in China.” But, dammit, we won! It was a perfect one-shot kill! Maverick himself couldn’t have done it better. Take that, China!

On Monday, the US and Israel launched massive military drills, which one Pentagon official speaking to NBC News described as the “most significant exercise between the United States and Israel to date.”
…
The Pentagon official who spoke with NBC said that the drills show the US has not forgotten about the region even as it is focused on its proxy war against Russia and a military buildup in the Asia Pacific aimed at China. “We still have the excess capacity to be able to flex to another high-priority area of responsibility and conduct an exercise on this scale,” the official said.

MSNBC opinion columnist Zeesham Aleem just penned the latest in what’s become a parade of hit pieces from mainstream outlets directed at me and other independent journalists. Even by the low standards of the genre, “How the populist left has become vulnerable to the populist right” is a humorous standout. It argues that after I spent a month detailing how the FBI, DHS, DOD, CIA and other agencies built a system for mass delivery of censorship requests to firms like Twitter and Facebook, I helped fuel a subculture that “could funnel people from leftism to authoritarianism.”

In the summer of 2005, the Bush administration confronted a fresh wave of criticism over Guantánamo Bay. The detention center had just been branded “the gulag of our times” by Amnesty International, there were new allegations of abuse from United Nations human rights experts and calls were mounting for its closure.
