Russia’s Race For Virus Vaccine Raises Concerns In The West

Industry body calls Russian Covid-19 vaccine a Pandora’s box

“Why are all corporations following the rules, but Russian ones aren’t? The rules for conducting clinical trials are written in blood. They can’t be violated,” ACTO Executive Director Svetlana Zavidova said by phone. “This is a Pandora’s Box and we don’t know what will happen to people injected with an unproven vaccine.”

ACTO represents a group of multinational companies that conduct clinical trials in Russia, including Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Novartis AG.

The deputy prime minister added that in August of 2020 the vaccine’s “conditional” state certification is planned. Trump signs executive orders on unemployment benefits, payroll tax after talks falter

One executive order extends enhanced unemployment benefits that expired roughly two weeks ago that have been critical to millions of Americans out of work due to the pandemic. The benefits will be lowered from $600 to $400 per week, with states required to cover 25 percent of the cost, Trump said.

One of the orders directs the Treasury Department to allow employers to defer payment of employee-side payroll taxes through the end of 2020 for Americans earning less than $100,000 annually. The holiday is expected to be retroactive to Aug. 1, Trump said, adding that he hoped to forgive the deferred payroll taxes and make permanent payroll tax cuts if he is reelected in November.
