As Israel destroys EU projects in Palestine, European foreign policy remains impotent

Yet, despite the fact that Israel has been on a crash course with the EU for years, Europe remains Israel’s number one trade partner. Worse, Europe is one of Israel’s largest weapons suppliers and also main market for Israel’s own weapons – often touted for being ‘combat-proven’, as in successfully used against Palestinians.

With Joe Biden apparently poised to be America’s next president, Scott talks to Dave DeCamp about some possible foreign policy changes under the new administration. To begin with, DeCamp worries that Biden will use a recent uptick in violence as an excuse to keep American troops in Afghanistan indefinitely, basically the strategy he advocated as Vice President. On Israel, DeCamp says that Biden was known as one of the strongest zionists in Washington until Trump showed up, and so we can expect very little positive change on that front either. Finally, Scott and DeCamp discuss the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh and its implications for the rest of the world.

Middle East press review: How the region’s media covered Biden’s victory

Nedim Sener, a columnist at increasingly pro-government newspaper Hurriyet, wrote that Fethullah Gulen’s disciples, who are accused of perpetrating the coup attempt in 2016, have been pictured with Biden in the past.

“Biden revealed his intention to interfere in Turkish domestic politics in an interview with the New York Times, where he said that the US should support the opposition leaders,” Sener said. “Biden is coming to complete what he couldn’t do with the coup attempt.”
