There are a lot of parallels between modern America and Germany during the leadup to the Nazi era: growing racism and xenophobia, economic decline, deteriorating democratic institutions, an obsession with militarism, violent political polarization. But the defining factor that the two countries share in their descent into fascism is a decision by each country’s liberals to participate in the campaign to repress the revolutionaries.

They Protested at a Police Station. They’re Charged With Trying to Kidnap Cops.

Lillian House, Joel Northam, and Whitney “Eliza” Lucero are among a group of Denver-area activists facing a slate of charges related to their protest activities this summer. Local prosecutors say the activists tried to kidnap police by holding a short-lived “occupation”-style protest outside the precinct and blocking its doors. But activists allege a crackdown on the most visible members of their movement, leading to terrifying SWAT arrests and the threat of years in prison.

Majority of Voters In Wisconsin, Where Jacob Blake Was Shot, Think Trump’s Response Has Been Harmful

More than half of respondents from all six states said they support both protesters and law enforcement, as racial justice protests have erupted across the nation for over three months. Fifty-three percent of swing-state voters have a favorable view of protests for criminal justice reform, and 72 percent said they have a positive opinion on their local police department.

Despite support for cops, the majority of respondents said they agree that “we should invest more in education, mental health and social services and spend less on policing” — a notion many Black Lives Matter activists have shortened to “defund the police.”
