For a while, we’ve been pointing out how terrible KOSA (the Kids Online Safety Act) is. Our main concern is that the bill would fundamentally lead to the suppression of all kinds of speech. That’s because the “duty of care” provision, while limited, would allow officials (mostly at the FTC, which can get partisan) to argue that certain types of results were due to a design failure, and companies would seek to suppress content, rather than face the potential liability.

Soros’ foundation commits $50 million to women and youth groups’ work on democracy
The new Open Society commitment will support nonprofits working on a wide range of issues affecting these groups, including reproductive justice, climate change, voting and gun safety.
Such support is needed, said Shawnda Chapman, director of innovative grantmaking and research for the Ms. Foundation for Women, adding that foundations looking to support social justice need to fund nonprofits in the movement as if they want them to win. The Ms. Foundation published research last week advocating for more financial support for women and gender-nonconforming people of color leading nonprofits on the frontlines of social justices issues.

What To Do When Racists Try To Hijack Your Religion
Sorry, Nazis, you’re not going to Valhalla, when you die! You’ll be going to Hell! I hate when people co-opt stuff! FYI, I’m wearing the letters H and J, from the runic alphabet, and not because I’m racist!

[10-11-23] UN and WHO call for ‘significant shift away from biomedical model of mental health’
UN and WHO call for ‘significant shift away from biomedical model of mental health’
WHO and UN are calling for significant shift away from the biomedical modelof mental health which encourages psychiatric diagnoses, medications, forced restraints, institutionalisation, imprisonment and other oppressive medical practices – towards a trauma-informed, social, human rights, person-centred approach to mental health
WHO and UN highlight the current ways the biomedical model of mental health harms, oppresses, controls, isolates, stigmatises and discriminates against those who have been told they have psychiatric disorders, and who have not been validated in their traumas, distress, poverty, environments, oppression, or experiences
WHO and UN recognise that women and girls, people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender are more likely to be labelled as mentally ill, and more likely to face forced sterilisations, coerced abortions, coerced contraception, and conversion therapies.
WHO and UN recognise that there are widespread human rights violations and harm being caused by current biomedical model approaches to mental health, which includes our psychiatric hospitals, services, treatments, and approaches
WHO and UN recognise that people who have been diagnosed with psychiatric disorders have been positioned as dangerous, unreliable and unstable, meaning that they are stigmatised and discriminated against in multiple systems of power (including health, criminal justice, family justice, education, employment, finances and their rights)

No, that’s not the start of a very lewd pornographic film… it’s straight out of the Bible (Ezekiel 23:20).

‘Judy Blume Forever’ directors say the beloved author is ‘furious’ about book banning
Judy Blume threw the gauntlet down earlier this year when she declared Kelly Fremon Craig’s upcoming film version of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret to be better than her seminal 1970 novel that’s been a must-read for multiple generations of teenagers. And filmmakers Davina Pardo and Leah Wolchok can confirm that the author’s reaction is 100% genuine. Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment from the 2023 Sundance Film Festival — where their new documentary, Judy Blume Forever, had its world premiere — the directors reveal that they were in the audience the first time Craig screened the film for Blume, now 84.
