Romanov’s publication came amid publication by the New York Times, which, citing US officials familiar with intelligence, reported that Surovikin allegedly “knew in advance of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s plans to rebel against the leaders soldiers of Russia” and therefore urged the “Wagnerians” to stop. At the same time, the newspaper claims, other Russian generals may support the businessman.

American officials and others interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence. They emphasized that much of what the United States and its allies know is preliminary. U.S. officials have avoided discussing the rebellion publicly, out of fear of feeding Mr. Putin’s narrative that the unrest was orchestrated by the West.

Still, American officials have an interest in pushing out information that undermines the standing of General Surovikin, whom they view as more competent and more ruthless than other members of the command. His removal would undoubtedly benefit Ukraine, whose Western-backed troops are pushing a new counteroffensive that is meant to try to win back territory seized by Moscow.

The Ukrainian Internet publication Klymenko Time allegedly published a fresh video dated May 25 this year, in which the commander-in-chief of the country’s armed forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny, is present, missing from the public space.

Quite sure we’ll find out soon enough if this is an accurate report. To my understanding Zaluzhny has not been seen for some time so it’s possible he’s been injured. Or is deceased?

Recall the chronology of this disappearance. The first rumors about the elimination of Zaluzhny appeared after reports of the destruction of the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Pavlograd, against which the Russian Armed Forces delivered massive strikes for two days in a row – on May 7 and 8.

Certain credible sources report that a tactical nuclear option might be “on the table” with at least some of the members of the Russian Security Council. Though TNW has never been on the table throughout the conflict in Ukraine and has never been discussed up until now, there are signals that a certain number of Security Council members are at least prepared to consider such a scenario.

The worst-case option under discussion is predetermined by increasing sophisticated military supplies from NATO countries to Ukraine. Security Council members are looking at the delivery of Western high-precision and long-range systems and munitions to the Ukrainian theatre, as well as the participation of Western military personnel in on-the-ground combat (so far, it appears that Poles will be operating certain equipment, as training Ukrainian soldiers takes time, and Western powers appear to be very short on time for further escalation).

It seems that the Russian Security Council operates on the idea that Western countries are prepared to supply even more sophisticated weaponry into the zone of conflict to try to derail the Russian offensive, no matter the cost to the Ukrainian side. According to Security Council estimates, the inclusion of NATO military hardware operators and the participation of NATO battalions on the ground in Ukraine will likely extend the ongoing conflict far beyond its current borders.

Western hostile movements and risky stakes-raising have already forced Putin to increase his military to up to 1.5 mln in a response to NATO redeployment in Europe closer to Russian borders.
