This is the Rockford College graduation speech Chris Hedges tried to give on May 17, 2003, before being drowned out by shouts and boos and fog horns. A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times, he is author of the highly recommended War Is the Force That Gives Us Meaning.

I saw this video months ago, but recently came across the text on Antiwar.com while searching for something else. He calls Putin a dictator, but Russia was fighting U.S.-backed terrorists in Chechnya at the time (see after the cut). The reason why the speech interested me is that Rockford isn’t far from where I grew up.

After the Soviet Union disbanded, Europeans assumed that Russia would be welcomed into the European Union and possibly NATO. The United States blocked these attempts because it needed a villain to justify NATO expansion. It also wanted to break up the powerful Russian Federation so that it could never challenge the American empire again nor protect its vast natural resources from foreign control. The Russian Federation consists of 22 republics where Washington supports secessionist movements with the goal of destabilizing and ultimately dismantling Russia.

The terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge must lead Russia to step up its military operation against Ukraine

On 8 October 2022, at around 6am, a terrorist attack (most likely carried out by Ukraine) damaged part of the Crimean Bridge and killed five people. Unsurprisingly, several Ukrainian officials celebrated the news, pointing an accusing finger at Ukraine themselves, and its nature as a terrorist state.
