July, huh?!

“The letter was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting. As Chair of the Caucus, I accept responsibility for this. Because of the timing, our message is being conflated by some as being equivalent to the recent statement by Republican Leader McCarthy threatening an end to aid to Ukraine if Republicans take over. The proximity of these statements created the unfortunate appearance that Democrats, who have strongly and unanimously supported and voted for every package of military, strategic, and economic assistance to the Ukrainian people, are somehow aligned with Republicans who seek to pull the plug on American support for President Zelensky and the Ukrainian forces.

Mark Pocan’s Tweet

Saw someone comment, on this video, about how the letter couldn’t have been written in July—or something like that (I didn’t screenshot it, unfortunately, and can’t find it now). I totally missed the part, in the letter, about the annexations. Referenda were September 23-27. Letter was released October 24. That’s only one month (Go figure, the first one to notice was a NAFO troll)! Haven’t been able to find anyone that pointed this out in any articles, just Tweets. On another note, Kevin McCarthy didn’t say that he was going to end military aid! They’re taking him out of context!

Sharp wind from the Bundestag

People who try to report on the war in Ukraine from the Russian side or who try to provide humanitarian aid to those in need in the new Russian territories are excluded from public discourse. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are becoming hollow concepts. In the future, anyone who says something that looks like a “playing down of Russian war crimes” can be punished for “incitement of the people” according to a legislative amendment passed by the Bundestag in summary proceedings on Thursday. By Ulrich Heyden.

THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY is quietly broadening its efforts to curb speech it considers dangerous, an investigation by The Intercept has found. Years of internal DHS memos, emails, and documents — obtained via leaks, Freedom of Information Act requests, and an ongoing lawsuit, as well as public reports — illustrate an expansive effort by the agency to influence tech platforms.

Fact Check: Price Of Gas Was NOT $5 A Gallon When Biden Took Office — It Was Less Than Half As Much

Was the price of gasoline $5 a gallon when President Joe Biden took office in January 2021? No, that’s not true: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website says a gallon of regular unleaded gas was only going for close to $2.33, on average, at that time. For September 2022, the most recent month government statistics were available at the time of this report, the same type of fuel sold for $3.88, a 66.5 percent increase over the administration’s starting point. Gasoline prices peaked at over $5 a gallon in the summer of 2022.
