Selective Free Speech: Censorship, Hypocrisy, and the Politics of Control

Full video. Timestamp: 4:50.

Marx’s insight—”The ruling ideas of each age have ever been the ideas of its ruling class”—perfectly captures the hypocrisy of free speech under the Trump administration. While they denounced censorship when the Biden administration silenced voices questioning pandemic policies, they now weaponize state power against those protesting the war in Gaza. This contradiction reveals that their defense of free speech is not based on principle but on political utility—protecting narratives that serve their interests while suppressing dissent that threatens their agenda. By framing pandemic skepticism as truth-seeking while branding anti-war activism as dangerous, they manipulate public discourse to maintain control rather than uphold genuine democratic values. This selective enforcement isn’t new; it’s a recurring pattern in power structures, where the ruling class dictates which ideas are legitimate and which must be silenced.

Bangladesh’s Constitution reform: Sweeping changes in the constitution

Constitution reform: Sweeping changes in constitution

Expanding the fundamental rights to include food, clothing, shelter, education, internet, and vote, the Constitution Reform Commission proposes replacing nationalism, socialism, and secularism with equality, human dignity, social justice and pluralism as fundamental principles of state policy.

Modifying, the much discussed article 70, the commission recommends that parliamentarians be allowed to vote against party line except finance bills.

The constitution commission recommends deletion of the constitutional provision that stipulates inclusion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech of March 7, 1971, his declaration of independence and the proclamation of independence, which are included in the 5th, 6th and 7th schedules respectively.

FYI, it was written by International IDEA, which is funded by USAID, Open Society Foundations, and several Western governments.

I forgot to bite my tongue again 😬

Florida schools recently removed most information on sex in their sex education curriculum. My initial shock was over the removal of the teaching of sexual consent from the program. Apparently, it’s okay to rape Floridian children. Anyway, I shared the video and got a comment making fun of LGBTQ+, as teaching about that was removed as well. I forgot to bite my tongue and let loose in my response. I’ve posted it below. I’ve covered the stats before, so I’m not posting sources.

Did you know that more cis (straight) boys get gender-affirming surgery than those who identify as transgender? Breast reductions are considered gender-affirming. I remember going to school with a guy who had to wear a bra because his breasts were so big that they caused him problems in gym class. The other kids made fun of him for it. He was straight, or what is now termed cis. Besides, less than 3% of Americans identify as transgender and less than 7% identify as LGBTQ+. Right-wingers (and some so-called Communists/Left-wingers) blow the LGBTQ+ issue out of proportion. I identify as queer. I just don’t flaunt it, but I will stand up for my fellow LGBTQ+. Criticize the U.S. government for how it weaponizes LGBTQ+ rights, human rights, or women’s rights, as an excuse for overthrowing other governments, instead. Capitalism and American Imperialism are the real problems.

Correcting some misinformation on Iran (response to a YouTube video)

From the “Selected Works of Mao Tse-Tung” (full text)

One of my YouTube subscriptions just put out a video roasting MAGA Communists for supporting Iran. While I’ve criticized MAGA Communism in the past, I had to respectfully disagree with their take on Iran. The following are just a few links to disprove the Western lies about Iran. I threw in some commentary as well. FYI, they may have deleted it by now, thanks to some of the comments. Although, I appreciate them admitting that they may have a flawed view of Iran, I’m still leaving this post up for the corrections.

Khaled Hosseini

I was recommended Khaled Hosseini’s book, “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by someone I’ve been conversing with on Goodreads. While it’s fiction, it appears that this person takes it how Muslims really are. From the critical reviews that I’ve read, so far, my immediate takeaway is that the book is Anti-Communist (the Soviets didn’t invade Afghanistan) and Islamophobic. Others have said that it’s racist and makes the case for ‘humanitarian intervention’ aka invasion based on women’s rights or children’s rights.

Leaked files expose covert US government plot to ‘destabilize Bangladesh’s politics’

Leaked docs reveal that prior to the toppling of Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina, the US govt-funded International Republican Institute trained an army of activists including rappers and “LGBTQI people,” even hosting “transgender dance performances,” to achieve a national “power shift.” Institute staff said the activists “would cooperate with IRI to destabilize Bangladesh’s politics.”

GAZA in real time: Geopolitics versus Genocide

Prefatory Note: A modified version of this interview conducted by Daniel Falcone, with a long introduction was published online in Truthout on October 29, 2023, The situation in Gaza and its increasingly regional implications grow more humanly distressing and politically menacing with each passing day. Israel has succeeded in influencing the Global West and its corporate main media platforms to accept two interpretations of events following the Oct 7 Hamas attack that are at best highly contentious and controversial and, in my understanding, deeply misleading and distorting: (1) that Hamas is nothing other than a group of terrorists engaged in barbaric crimes, and should be addressed in the same manner as ISIS and Al-Qaeda; (2) that it is legitimate in such a conflict to override normal rules of international law, even to the extent of engaging in genocidal means of ethnic cleansing.

But if you do decide to wade into the infowar battlespace that is the comments section, then at the very least you need to arm yourself with knowledge of the various tactics that the trolls, bots, disinformation agents, psyops warriors, sealions and forum spies are employing to derail you from taking meaningful action. Today on #SolutionsWatch I’ll help do just that by reviewing The Gentleperson’s Guide to Forum Spies.
