Colin Powell Brought “Diversity” to War Crimes and Imperialism.
Throughout his career, Powell was trotted out as evidence that we live a post-racial society. He served as a token to show that racism is over and inequalities were just the fault of individuals. This has been a strategy usually used by the Democratic Party, but the Republicans also dipped their toe into “intersectional imperialism” with Colin Powell.
“Unchallenged Orientalism”: Why Liberals Suddenly Love the Lab Leak Theory
It is this context in which the return of the lab leak theory should be seen. Lab leaks do happen. But there is precious little hard evidence that such is the case here. That so many of the nation’s top alternative news figures — individuals who stood against U.S. wars and against similar campaigns, such as RussiaGate — are buying into this one is remarkable. This is especially the case in light of the fact that the evidence is so weak and comes from highly discredited sources, while scientists remain highly skeptical of the theory.
…
The lab leak theory bears a striking resemblance to the weapons of mass destruction hoax of 2002-03, not only in the fact that one of its key players is literally the same journalist using potentially the same anonymous sources, but also in the bipartisan political and media support for the project, all while ignoring the opinions of the scientific community. That so many in alternative media who question war and U.S. intervention not only cannot see that, but are invoking the WMD story to bolster their own side, is extraordinary, and shows how badly the need is to build up a healthy media ecosystem.
Between 2001 and 2003, the public was subjected to a constant barrage of pro-war propaganda. But at least nascent alternative media offered a dissenting voice. Anti-war voices pushing the lab leak theory might one day find it is too late to stop the clock on the dangerous drive towards a second Cold War. If there is any conflict with China, it will make Iraq look like a tea party by comparison. But truth, in war, is always the first casualty.

The aging neocons who have been practicing regime change ops in the Middle East for decades are now launching a project targeting Turkey – perhaps in honor of the deceased Don Rumsfeld.

Former MI6 chief behind faked “evidence” for Iraq war leading anti-China Wuhan lab conspiracy
It is not accidental that the Wall Street Journal author, Michael R. Gordon, was the same man who, along with Judith Miller, wrote the September 8, 2002 article asserting Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was seeking to build a nuclear weapon. The claim was a lie, funnelled to the pair by the office of Republican Vice President Dick Cheney. But before it could be irrefutably discredited, it had served its purpose in politically legitimising the Iraq war and occupation that has killed over a million people.
Likewise, the main public “intelligence” proponent of the Wuhan lab conspiracy in Britain is former MI6 chief Sir Richard Dearlove. He first made the claim in a Telegraph podcast in June 2020, shortly after Trump’s secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, said he had “enormous evidence” to back this up, before quickly backtracking.

Study alleges China created coronavirus in lab, tried to cover tracks
As I’ve pointed out, before:
Dalgleish/Sorensen published a prior study, blaming China, which was rejected twice before eventually being published in Cambridge University’s Quarterly Review of Biophysics Discovery. One of the authors, John Fredrik Moxnes (who asked to have his name removed) has ties to the Norwegian military. Sir Richard Dearlove (former head of MI6), featured in this article, graduated from Cambridge University, himself* (Original article is behind a paywall)
QRB Discovery is published by Cambridge University Press, despite what the Telegraph article stated (were they hiding something?!).
*Cambridge University seems to be a recruiting ground for MI5/MI6.
Australia’s Murdoch media and the Wuhan COVID-19 lab conspiracy theory
What they missed:
A week later, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Media Watch debunked the story with a roundup of reporting on the many holes in Markson’s work. According to its report, GNews was one of the earliest reported adopters of the conspiracy theory based on the discredited 2015 book.
The debunk explained that “a host of China experts say the book is not outlining China’s plans for biowarfare” but rather “it’s looking at defense against Western attacks, which it claims have already started.” Media Watch also noted that the document Markson based her reporting on is a readily available book that can be purchased online.
